National Service Scheme (NSS):
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme of Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. Introduced in 1969, it provides Indian student youth with opportunities for voluntary community service, aiming to develop their personality, character, and social conscience through "Education through Service". It provides opportunity to the student youth of 11th & 12th Class and student of Technical Institution, Graduate & Post Graduate at colleges and University level of India to take part in various government led community service activities & programmes. Special camps are also organized in rural or adopted villages, where volunteers live and work closely with the community to understand their challenges and contribute towards sustainable development. Through these initiatives, NSS instills qualities of discipline, leadership, teamwork, and national integration. Participation in NSS not only benefits society but also shapes the holistic personality of students, preparing them to be responsible citizens and future leaders committed to the ideals of service and nation-building.
College Unit of NSS:
The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Duliajan College, established in 2001, has been actively engaged in various community-oriented and social welfare activities. Over the years, NSS volunteers have carried out tree plantation drives in surrounding villages, organized awareness programs on the ill effects of tobacco and the reduction of polythene use, and undertaken cleanliness drives in and outside the college campus to promote hygiene and environmental consciousness. The unit has also played a significant role in organizing blood donation camps both in the college and in nearby villages, fostering a culture of humanitarian service. These activities not only benefit the community but also instill in students values of empathy, cooperation, and discipline. At present, the NSS unit is led by its convener, Mr. Rubul Khatoniar, an assistant professor of history department under whose guidance the volunteers continue to contribute meaningfully to society.
